The first place that I’m going to talk about is Castro. Why  The Castro? Because I’m actually living in The Castro so it’s one of the first places I arrived when I came here to San Francisco. The Castro get is name from The Castro street which get his name from José Castro a leader of Mexican opposition to U.S. in the 19th century.

Today The Castro is actually the “heart” of the gay community in San Francisco. The Castro became a gay neighborhood after the summer of love in Haight-Ashbury, the neighboring district, in 1967. The Castro was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the United States.

The Castro is really pleasant it’s a quiet neighborhood close to downtown. Indeed the metro picks you up at the corner of Market St and The Castro St just below the famous rainbow flag, which represent the LGBT movement. One of the famous monuments in The Castro is obviously the Castro Theatre in which you can see movies, sing alone, musical comedy… Furthermore if you’re French you probably know the song of Maxime Le Forestier: Une maison bleu. Because this “maison bleu” (blue house) is in The Castro at 3841 18th st.
